The Icelandic Horse
 
The Icelandic Horse
The Icelandic horse (and although they are pony height they are referred to as horses) all have tremendous stamina and strength. They are surefooted and have unusual gaits - in addition to walk, trot, canter, there is tölt (a four-beat running walk) and pace (a two-beat, very fast, lateral gait).
Origin: Iceland.
Colour: all, except leopard-spotted, overo-spotted and sabino-spotted.
Height: between 12 and 15hh.
Conformation: large head, strong, short neck. Compact body with clean legs and large feet.
Character: self-willed, but eager to work, with a good sense of direction.
Uses: driving, trekking, long distance riding, dressage, jumping, eventing, farmwork, RDA.
